THURSDAY, APRIL 30, 2015 - CUSCO, PERU

After breakfast, we set out for a site outside the city called Sacsayhuaman fortress.  It is an emblematic Inca construction built in the 15th century.  The size of the fortress and its massive stones are remarkable. and the manner in which they were transported, cut, and laid is still a mystery.

Cristo Blanco in the surrounding mountains of Cusco.

Next, we traveled back to the city center.

The Plaza de Armas with the Cathedral of Cusco

This is known as Koricancha,  basically a big plaza with Inca ruins and a church built on top of them.

We returned to the hotel where we had the remainder of the day as free time.  The 4 of us did some shopping then asked at our hotel about a place to get a hamburger.  The recommended place was Papachos which was 10-12 blocks away.  The walk was worth it.  The food was outstanding even though we didn't have hamburgers.  (Really miss being able to eat the fresh vegetables--onions, lettuce, tomatoes).

Returned to the hotel and began packing for the flight tomorrow to Brazil.
