SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2012 - NATIONAL HOLIDAY IN FRANCE- ARMISTICE DAY - (End of World War I). This being a Sunday and a national holiday, we felt that our choices for sightseeing should be somewhat simple. We considered returning to Bordeaux on a train that traveled from the nearby village of Le Verdon Sur Mer to Bordeaux, but there was no return train until the following day. So, we opted to take a shuttle provided by Celebrity cruises to the small village of Le Verdon Sur Mer. Once there, we walked among the quaint, little stores.
The village fronted on the ocean with a beautiful white beach.
We heard that at noon there was to be a parade and a ceremony marking Armistice Day.
Uniformed men carried flags and marched toward the government building show above.
And, people gathered for the presentation of the flags and speeches.
I was impressed by the ceremony.
We returned to the ship by the provided shuttle and relaxed for the day.
