This was our first view of Toulon, France and, in fact, our first time to visit any location in France. Toulon is located on the Mediterranean coastline between Marseille and Nice on the fringes of an area known as the French Riviera .
As we looked out at the harbor it seemed to contain more than just a few sailboats apparently just waiting for the weekend trips that the owners must enjoy.
Across the bay were rows of high rise buildings that seem to be home to many people—probably many of those who own the sailboats.
Walking about a mile we came upon a very nice 3-level mall with a delicious-looking bakery. In the mall, we located a large electronics store and searched for a third camera battery that we wanted to purchase before our next stop. Eventually we located a clerk that understood and spoke very limited English. With his help we found the needed battery. It was expensive—about 43 Euros ($75). I think in the USA a similar battery sells for about $40. But, if it’s needed…
Leaving the mall we walked past seaside, sidewalk cafes that were serving lunch. I could just imagine how crowded these cafes must be when the weather is warmer. (Note that everyone is wearing a coat).
We saw a dog and his master walking and thought about Isabella and how much she likes to walk.
After visiting the shops near the port we headed back to the Brilliance of the Seas. It was pleasant to return to the ship and relax after our very active time in Barcelona. And, tomorrow we start a very busy schedule, visiting Florence & Pisa, Italy, and on Sunday, visiting Rome. We know that those will both be long, full days!
